About the Press

Founded by author-editor Danielle Schley in Vermont’s Mad River Valley, Sophisticated Chicken Press exists to obsess over powerful stories.

We're in this for the long haul, so we choose books that haunt us—set in worlds we never want to leave, with characters we fall in love with. That means a limited list, close editorial attention, and a passion for getting our titles into the hands of readers who'll devour them.

Our focus is adult fiction with something to say. We prioritize voice, character, stakes, and craft.
